Shoeburyness sits on the Thames Estuary and is at the far east of the district of Southend-on-Sea, bordered to the west by Thorpe Bay at Maplin Way and to the North by Great Wakering which is part of Rochford District. The MoD Shoeburyness site at Pig's Bay is situated nearby and the facility is run by the company QinetiQ. The Garrison site is now part of a conservation area set up by Southend City Council.
